"May we speak English with you?"

"May we speak English with you?"

This, plus the preceding portrait, is the typical outcome of a usually not very long conversation when young people want to test out or show their language skills. It happens all over the world. In most cases the Lonely Planet Farsi (or any other appropriate language) book comes out, always good for a laugh. At the "Thank You" at the end of the conversation I always ask: May I take you picture now? The answer is never "No" and most times the atmosphere is good enough for relaxed pictures. (I do not believe in tele-pictures of people that have no 'rapport' with the photographer.)
